History
The Penrith Valley Concert Band was established by Ray Gallagher in 1989 firstly as a youth band for those students that were graduating from York Primary School Band. Ray had been training York band for some years to the point where they were winning eisteddfods and other local competitions and gaining a reputation as one of the best school bands in the state - primary or secondary. Ray wanted to ensure that these young musicians had an opportunity to continue their musical development beyond the primary school setting. As Penrith Valley Concert Band grew in size and stature, it attracted a a number of adult players until it became a community band in the fullest sense.

Since its inception the band has had several musical directors beginning of course with Ray Gallagher. Once the band was well established Ray preferred to be a tuba player within the band helping out with conducting on occasions. The next leader of the band was Carl Hammond, who has since returned to USA where he continues to lead bands and orchestras and conduct workshops in musicianship in and around San Diego. Local musician and teacher, Merv Lawrence took over for three years until Cathy Jarman was appointed as Musical Director in 1997. In 2004, professional percussionist and music teacher Fatima DeAssis took over the reigns at Penrith Valley Concert Band.
2010 saw flautist, conductor and music teacher Emma Farrell take the position of Musical Director. Emma's involvement with the PVCB has reigned 15 years and saw fitting that her dedication and commitment to the band for these years made her the suitable candidate for this position.
